When an autocratic new headmaster arrives at Angel Hill Grammar School, he begins to instigate all manner of repressive new rules. Easy-going music teacher Mr. Dingle (John Mills) tries to stand up for the pupil's rights, but soon finds himself at loggerheads with the headmaster. It soon falls to the students themselves to fight for what they believe in.
It's Great To Be Young! is one of John Mills finest hours. He delivers an electrifying and impassioned central performance as the inspirational, jazz-loving teacher Mr. Dingle, and has some exceptional support from Cecil Parker (The Man In The White Suit, The Lady Killers) as Frome, the well-meaning but out-dated headmaster. Shot in striking Eastmancolour, It's Great To Be Young! is an enduring favourite of british fell-good cinema. A timeless classic.
