The Larkins get themselves involved with a film unit making TV commercials. Ada is asked to appear in a soap advert and Alf is chosen for a brewery commercial. What could possibly go wrong.
Eddie's been moping around looking preoccupied. The calm is shattered and an outbreak of gang warfare seems imminent.
The Larkins have used every possible system when filling in their pools coupon, without success. Now, Joyce has a new plan in which each family member completes a line. It works wonderfully, with one line on the coupon winning first dividend. But whose line was it?
Ada decides to supervise the buying of her birthday present. After her hints to Alf about a washing machine fall on deaf ears, she sends Eddie out to buy a second-hand model, with money and full instructions. Unfortunately, on the way there he is sidetracked by a slick, fast-talking car salesman.
Neighbour Hetty Prout has left Sam and Myrtle to fend for themselves, so Ada thoughtfully invites them in for a meal. Then Gran Foskett, Hetty's fearsome mother, arrives on the scene, she intends to 'do' for Sam and Myrtle. Alf, Jeff and Eddie devise a plan to save the neighbourhood from her continued presence.
Jeff's 'Tycoon' father is coming to stay and Ada plans to give him the VIP treatment, ordering Chicken Maryland, the biggest hired car available, morning dress and top hats. Alf, immaculate in his grey topper and spats, can't help wondering what the neighbours will say
